Omitted from the new edition is the story of Callisto: she was a follower of Artemis but cursed by her own beauty.
Zeus came to her disguised as Artemis herself, and thus 'had his way with her'; Callisto became pregnant.
When her delicate condition became evident, she was banished by Artemis! No forgiveness in this goddess!
After she gave birth, Hera (or Artemis) transformed her into a bear. Her child Arcas became an avid hunter (of course).
And as Ovid tells the poignant tale, he very nearly slew his own mother (the bear approaching him with outstretched paws);
Zeus intervened and transported them to the heavens, where she is the Big Dipper (=Ursa Major).
