The Winona Bridge

jcb02.jpg (35888 bytes) My maternal grandfather, John C. Bambenek (1891-1966), standing on the Minnesota side of the Winona Bridge some time in the 1930s. In the early 1910's he used to hop Wisconsin bound freight trains here to visit his future wife, Laura Pellowski (1893-1946) in Dodge, Wisconsin.
jjh02.jpg (32544 bytes) Here I am, standing in the same place in 1994. The Winona Bridge has not been used for years, and the middle span has burned down. I should have been standing farther in front of the pole at my left. I think it was very brave of Lisa to stand so close to the ex-bridge as it was.
