Past Rutherford Fellows:
Brent Maxwell is the Monitoring and Evaluation Database Analyst for Landmine Survivors Network. He joined the organization in 2007 after completing his Master's of International Affairs and Administration at Missouri State University.
Prior to his work at LSN, Brent was very involved with the World Affairs Council at Missouri State, where he was the Secretary-General for the Mid-American Model United Nations for three years in a row.
Brent has also been very involved with the Springfield Chapter of the United Nations Association. After sitting as a student board member for 2 years and developing the local chapter's website, he was appointed Emeritus Board Member in May, 2007.
Zhanna Son is the Special Program Associate of Landmine Survivors Network and has been with the organization since 2005. She first joined LSN as a Rutherford fellow contributing to the Human Rights and Advocacy Department. During her tenure as a fellow, Zhanna compiled and analyzed disability related excerpts Concluding Comments issued by six out of seven UN treaty bodies. She participated at the UN Ad Hoc Committee meetings on the Draft Disability Rights Convention, providing assistance to LSN delegation. Currently Zhanna works for the International Programs Department supporting six oversees Networks on operational and reporting issues. In addition, she closely works with the Chief Operating Officer of LSN on communication needs, planning and reporting requirements regarding organizational progress, challenges and opportunities.
Before joining LSN, as a technical assistant/translator, Zhanna was involved in implementation of a number of internationally-funded projects for the Ministry of Transport and Communication in Kazakhstan. In the beginning of January 2005, she was selected to work with the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Out-of-Country Voting program. As a presiding officer and polling staff, Zhanna helped educate out-of-country Iraqis about voting as part of Iraqi elections for the first time in more than 30 years, based in Washington DC.
Zhanna Son attended the Kazakh State University of International Relations and World Languages and Missouri State University. She is fluent in Russian and English and has a working knowledge of German.
