Missouri State University

Missouri State University (Missouri State) is a selective admission institution with nearly 20,000 students, including approximately 3,800 graduate students.

We are a four-year liberal arts campus with a student population that mostly comes from Missouri . . . about one-third of the students come from either St. Louis or Kansas City, another 2% are international students, we have several hundred National Merit Scholars, and the remainder are students from the region surrounding the campus.

Missouri State offers a wide variety of academic majors and minors and this number is steadily increasing. We have a television and radio station on campus (both are public - PBS television and the KSMU radio station) and our own distance learning facilities. Due to its location, Springfield is blessed with a very large complex of hospitals and this is reflected in several medicine-related programs at the university.

Our faculty number about 700, most with PhDs and, in all, we have about 2000 staff members (professors, staff and administration). Our physical plant includes approximately 45 buildings including two art galleries, two live theater stages, and a total of seven different colleges. Our newest facility is a $28,000,000, state-of-the-art addition to the university's library. Coming in 2008 is our new, $65,000,000 basketball complex and a multi-million dollar refurbishing of an existing gymnasium into a new student activity center.
