English 373: Adobe Photoshop CS3 Project
Now that you’ve learned techniques for correcting and modifying images, you will apply your new skills to your own images. For this assignment, pick three images to edit, and then correct the images following these criteria:
- Scan at least one of the images, and use an appropriate resolution.
- Save the images and work on them in native Photoshop (PSD) format. If you import a JPEG image from a digital camera, save the image immediately as a PSD file before working on it. (Do not accidentally select Photoshop PDF format!) Be sure to name each photo clearly.
- Immediately duplicate the Background layer, and leave the Background layer untouched. Keeping your original, unedited image on the Background layer allows you and me compare the original and corrected versions more easily. (If you crop or perform any other adjustment that cuts through all layers, also supply a separate file that shows the image before cropping.)
- In editing each photo, show your ability to use several techniques you learned about from the text, and try to use a different set of techniques on each photo.
- When possible, perform each correction in its own layer in a natural sequence. Performing the corrections in layers will allow you to discard layers that didn't turn out well.
- Make sure your corrections look realistic and natural.
- Write a step-by-step account of the methods you use to modify each image.
On the due date, you’ll turn in the PSD files (with the original background layer and correction layers) on your class CD. You’ll also submit your written discussion in InDesign format. As you work on the photos, you may want to document your steps in a Word file. You can then import the word-processed text into InDesign at the appropriate time.
