Notes about and Adjustments to Dreamweaver Lessons 11–13
Please make the following notes about and adjustments to the lessons we're completing in the Dreamweaver text.
Lesson 11
- Page 307: Name the site definition lesson_11.
- Page 321, step 3: Add a space between font and size. Font is the element, and size is the attribute, so a space is necessary. Also, add a quote mark after sans-serif on the same line.
- Page 321, step 4: Save the report to the dw11lessons folder.
- Page 324: In the Self Study section, do only item 1 up to "Return to the Design view . . . ." Don't complete items 2 and 3.
Lesson 12
- Page 327: Name the site definition lesson_12.
- Page 336, step 10: In the
Properties panel, name the Address field
Address1, and name the
City/State/Zip field Address2.
- Page 336, step 11: Name the file
mcknight_form.html to comply with standard
Web-naming practices.
- Page 347, step 7: Note that
Submit already appears in the field.
- Page 347, step 10: For the
Validate button, type Validate in the
Value box.
- Page 349, step 5: Choose
Screen as the target medium.
- Page 350, step 5: Use the number sign before
the hexadecimal code.
- Page 352, end of page: Don't experiment with
different properties.
- Page 356, step 3: Note that list items 4, 5,
and 6 are simply for information.
- Page 358: In the Self Study section, do only
item 1. To set validation behaviors for the remaining text items, open the
Behaviors panel, and then double-click
Validate Form. Set Address1
and Address2 to Required.
Lesson 13
- Page 361: Name the site definition
lesson_13, and follow the instructions for creating
an account with Lycos's Tripod service.
- Page 363, step 5: In the
Site Definition dialog box shown in the book, fill out the boxes as
follows:
- Connect to the Remote Server through FTP.
- For the FTP address, type ftp.tripod.com.
- Don't enter a folder name on the remote server.
- For the FTP login, type your Tripod username.
- For the FTP password, type your Tripod password.
- Page 363, step 6: If you receive a message
about allowing Dreamweaver through the Windows Firewall, click
Unblock.
- Page 363, step 7: Export your site
definition to the lesson 13 folder, overwriting the existing definition. Be
sure the Back up my settings option is selected
before clicking OK.
- Page 366, after step 2: In the
Remote Site pane, right-click the existing
index.htm file, point to Edit,
and then click Rename. Change the file name to
index.htm.old.
- Page 367, steps 1 and 2: Note that these
steps are just information; don't perform them.
- Page 368, step 2: Do only the
Basic View portion; skip the
Advanced View portion. In the Basic View,
though, be sure to type your Name and
E-mail Address in the corresponding boxes.
- Page 368, after step 2: Export your site
definition again.
- Page 369, step 2: Try this step using
index.html.
- Page 369, step 3: For the "necessary
change," type English 473 in the lower-right cell.
- Page 371, step 1: Open
exhibits.html for adding a design note.
- Page 371, steps 3 and 4: For the design
note, in addition to typing a note in the Notes
field, do the following:
- Set the Status to needs
attention.
- Include a date stamp.
- Select the Show when file is opened check
box.
- Page 372, after step 3: Export the site
definition again.
- Page 373, step 6: Check in the file.
- Page 375, step 6: Note that you'll click
OK several times.
- Page 376, step 1: Make sure the
Report on list is set to Entire
Current Local Site.
- Page 379, step 3: Save the report, using its
default file name, to the lesson 13 folder.
- Page 383, step 1: Because these items are
already completed for the index.html file, open the
exhibits.html file instead.
- Page 386, Site Launch Checklist: Note that
these items are for reference only.
- Page 387, after step 6: To view your site,
open a Web browser, and type http://username.tripod.com
in the address box.
- Page 391: Don't do the Self Study.
