Famous Missourians
Famous Missourian Project
1. Here is your mission. You are to
spend time on the first day of the project deciding which famous Missourian you
will research.
2. By the second day of the project, you
will give to your teacher the name of the famous Missourian you will become.
Everyone will have a different person's name to research.
3. Then you will do research on your
person. Some of this research will have to be done outside of class, too.
4. During your research, you will find out
all sorts of information about your person. You will find out the
following things:
--Birthdate,
place where born, death date (if appropriate)
You will need this information in order to plan for your props or costumes for
your oral presentation.
--Find out about their life--their hardships,
things they had to overcome in their lives, failures, successes
--Find out what their family life was like, where
they got their education, where they lived, what different experiences they had
in their lives
--If your person made music, find some example or
examples of the music to play during your presentation
--Find out why your person is considered a "famous
Missourian". What contributions did they make to our state, our community,
or our world?
--Find out all you can about your famous person.
5. Your final project is for you to
give an oral presentation of your person.
You will "become" that person and give an oral
presentation, role playing your famous Missourian. You will need to be "in
character" during the whole presentation. You will make sure that everyone
in the class knows why you are considered a famous Missourian by telling us
about your life, what it was like growing up, what hardships you overcame, what
failures and successes you have had in your life. Everything you tell us
must be in first-person, that is, you will pretend you are the person as you
tell us your story. **If possible, have a picture of your famous person to
show on a Power Point slide.
6. You will be evaluated, using this
rubric. Please make sure to read it carefully before you begin this
project so you know what is expected of you.
Evaluation:
Historical Role Play: Famous Missourians
Note:
Costumes do not have to be elaborate. Getting across to your audience
the time period when the person lived and what the peson did that is/was
important to the rest of us is the most important part, not how
elaborate your costume is for us. Keep the costume simple and/or use props
to get main ideas across to the audience.
8. Your teacher will tell you when each step of your research is due.
