Pre-Writing
► Brainstorm
your ideas. Use Inspiration or a story board planner or web
ideas on a piece of notebook paper.
► Write
your ideas down. Don't worry too much about spelling. Edit later.
Rough Drafts
► Handwrite your 1st rough draft;
keep this copy to hand in at the end
►Type (double-spaced) and on your flash
drive, SAVE your
rough draft in Rich Text Format (RTF). Print a copy either at home
or at school.

Editing and Revision first rough draft
►Bring to school for editing and revising;
keep this copy to hand in at the end
Second Rough Draft
►Take home to retype and SAVE (in RTF) on flash drive. Print
a copy either at home or at school.
Proofreading and
final revisions
►Bring 2nd rough draft to school. You will do one final check
for spelling, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, punctuation,
etc.
► When
you have finished writing, use spell check and/or a dictionary
to edit for spelling errors.
► Read
to edit grammar and check for:
- CAPITAL LETTERS for the beginning of sentences and names
of specific persons, places and things..
- Punctuation and spacing after punctuation (one for commas,
two for periods,
?, and !).
- Indent paragraphs with the Tab key (5
spaces) or 5 handwritten spaces.
- Read aloud to yourself or someone else to
be sure your writing makes sense and that you havent left
out or added extra words.
Writing and Editing
Checklist
► SAVE
the changes you have made after editing your work if you are typing;
keep this second, revised draft to hand in
at the end
► Center
your title with the alignment icon and make it bigger
and bold; make sure your name and
# are on all papers except the final draft.
Final Draft
► Use Print Preview
(under File Menu) to edit the layout, making sure it looks appealing to
the eye. or Recopy your final draft.
► SAVE.
► Print
your work when you are satisfied with all the changes. You may print
at home or print at school.
►Hand in all parts of your writing.
I want all the parts stapled in this order
--the brainstorming on the bottom (worth 10 points)
--the handwritten first draft (worth 10 points)
--the edited rough draft in the middle (worth 10 points)
--and the final on top (worth anywhere between (worth10 points)
Be sure to
label all papers, except the final with your name#, date, and topic. |
