Introduction

You are going to discover the meanings of a point, a ray, a line segment, parallel lines, intersecting lines, and three types of angles. This site also includes information about “planes” in geometry.Do not worry about that information today. Just skip information about planes.

The Internet Resources

As you read about these words, also pay close attention to the symbols mathematicians use when using these geometry terms. You need to know the symbols, too.

·         Geometry Words - See drawings and read definitions of geometry words.

·         Pairs of Lines - Find out the difference between parallel lines and intersecting lines, plus find out what perpendicular lines are all about.

You will need to read, then go on to the other parts of the exercise to find out more. By chosing “next” on each page, you will practice what you have read about, then take a quiz about what you have learned. If there is enough time today, we will discuss what you have learned; if not, we will have our discussion tomorrow.

·         Angles - Find out about straight, right, obtuse, and acute angles, plus find out how they are measured in degrees.
