2006 Corps of Discovery Animal Research Timeline

This research report will be a short, informational and interactive* Power Point™, using the animal information criteria sheet students have received in class. The criteria sheet is also posted on the website under "Current Research Project".  Above all things, this is to be a “kid generated project”. I want the student to have the experience and I want to see what the student can do.

* Students will have interactive buttons included in the Power Point™.  Students should include a question- answer type format, or in someway keep in mind higher level thinking skills when designing their presentation.  They must come up with a way to engage the audience with their information. In other words, make their audience THINK while they are learning about the critter.

The objectives of this project are as follows:

To find out more information about animals that Lewis and Clark "discovered" during their exploration of the Missouri River. These are critters that no other Americans had seen up until this time in history.

To get familiar with basic research procedures, including using note cards, categorizing and organizing information while writing a short report suitable for PPT.

To get experience using informational books, such as encyclopedias, animal encyclopedias, trade books, magazines and Internet sites.

To get experience with media technology—scanning, importing photos, creating bibliography using online tools found on our Research Links under Study Helpers, called Citation Machine.

To get experience with search tools, such as http://www.google.com or Internet Public Library, Encyclopedias, eThemes, and other teacher approved searchable sites.

To get more experience with organizing a Power Point
presentation

Research notes shall be completed and organized, and ready to organize into a written outline by Tuesday, November 21, 2006.
