Montileone.
And, special thanks
goes to their
parents, Letitia
Walker, Gina
Engleman, Rosalia
Parrish, and Jonna
Montileone for
backing the boys up
in their project.
A special thank you goes to all the 7th graders who
volunteered to pitch
the game and help
out! What a
great bunch of kids!
All 4th and 5th graders who participated had a blast.
I must say that I
was so very proud of
the wonderful
behavior of all the
students; it was an
impressive night for
all who attended.
From what I heard
from parents,
everyone had a fun
time.
The boys had a $200 goal, and they far surpassed it,
earning
$645.00!
We sold water (50¢)
and popcorn (25¢),
and the silent
auction consisted of
free homework and
recess passes and
candy were donated
by Mrs. Milburn and
me! Thanks,
Mrs. Milburn for
helping out with the
silent auction items
you made available! |

Math: We
finish
Unit 1 Naming and Constructing Geometric
Figures
Lesson 1.8
Hexagon and Triangle Constructions: to
guide students in the construction of
figures with a compass and straightedge;
we will be discussing congruent figures
(figures that are the same shape and
size), perpendicular lines
Lesson 1.9 Review Students should
have brought home the study guide on
Friday. The answers are included
with the study questions, and there is
no need to hand it in, but if a student
has a particular question on Tuesday,
they should bring it before the class
during the review. I will go over
various aspects of the unit on that day.
Wednesday is the Unit 1 test.
Unit 2 begins on Thursday. Ms. Lea
begins teaching math with my guidance.
Using Numbers and Organizing Data.
Lesson 2.1 A Visit to
Washington, D.C.: to review examples of
the various ways in which numbers are
used (for counting, measuring,
identification and codes, comparisons,
and reference--dates, time,
latitude/longitude) Study Link 2.1
requires that students find numerous
ways that numbers are used in their
environment. They may need some
assistance finding examples.
Students should
be reviewing and memorizing basic
addition, subtraction, and
multiplication facts. They can use
sites on the classroom website, flash
cards, or any other way you come up with
doing.
Watch planners for daily assignments.

Science:
Water Education Unit
finishes this week with an
assessment on Thursday. We've been
reviewing in class each day to make sure
everyone is understanding the terms and
concepts we've learned. The
Water Education Unit Objectives
can be
opened here, or can be found on the
science links page. This week we
learn about healthy water and get to
have some hands-on experience with pond
water and identifying
macro-invertebrates. Guess
speaker, Kellie Herman, steam team
member, will be sharing this lesson.
She is an intern with the James River
Basin group.

Love and Logicisms , Wise Words About
Kids
by Jim and Charles Fay
Wise parents encourage
their kids to go first class
on their own money.
Never give a kids the bad news about
the cost of something, if someone else
will do it for you. Why? Children,
like adults, are always angriest with
the messenger.

Love and Logic Stories
Skipping Classes
Toby was admitting to his mom that
he had skipped one of his classes
six times.
"Oh, no," responded Mom. "You're
going to fail that class."
"No, Mom. I'm not going to fail. You
worry about everything. It's no big
deal."
"Wait a minute," she answered. "The
school rule says that five unexcused
absences earn a failing grade."
"Don't worry, Mom. I'm covered."
"Wait a minute. You didn't commit
forgery, did you?"
"Yeah, Mom. But it's no big deal;
everybody does it."
Believe it or not, Mom called a
national talk show asking for advice
about how to handle it without
letting Toby fail the class.
If I were to ask you about this,
you'd probably tell me that Toby
needs to face the music. He needs to
confess and learn from the
situation. And you would be right.
Toby's mother can either stand
between his bad decision and the
consequences, or she can stand
beside him, supporting him as he
learns from it. She can't do both.
I'd suggest that she say to Toby,
"What a sad situation, Toby. How do
you want to confess? Do you want to
do it in person, in writing, or
would you rather have me help you by
going with you to the principal's
office? I bet you might like a hug
right now. I know that I do." |
