Mrs.
J's Fourth Grade Supply List 2009-2010
::
Please purchase the following (and PLEASE KEEP MATERIALS VERY BASIC
and LABEL belongings, including pencils and pens).
I do not allow materials that look like toys. They can become very
distracting. Our storage area is very limited, too. If they come
to school, I ask them to go back home.
Jump drive (also called thumb drive, flash drive), 512 Gig or more.
One 2", 3-ring view binder, the kind with the pocket on the
front. (DO NOT purchase large
notebooks or zippered. They are not necessary.)
One package of 8, tabbed pocket dividers (to be inserted into
binder)
3- ring pencil pouch that will fit into the binder
Dual Ruled Composition Book, 7 1/2" x 9 3/4",
Quadrille/College Ruled, 100 Pages (50 Sheets)
WIDE-LINED (not college ruled) notebook paper.
Bring the entire package(s) and we will store at school. Be sure
to keep some at home for homework, too.
1 red, green, or purple ball point pen to be used for grading and
proofreading/editing papers.
One large eraser for the BIG mistakes.
One package of
Expo dry erase markers. Get the wide tipped,
red, green, black and blue, and make sure they are the Expo
markers (NOT the Expo 2; they do not erase easily).
I have whiteboard erasers in the room, so you don't need them. (Our
erasers look like white socks, but are really erasers!) I launder them every two weeks so we have clean "erasers".
One
Pencil/Ruler Box, 5 5/8" x 13 3/8" x 2 1/2", Clear
that will fit ALL of the following:
A. a
pair of sharp scissors, about 4-5" long
B.
box
of 12 colored pencils (Please sharpen them at home so they are ready to use.).
You will NOT need markers for school.
C. glue stick and medium sized bottle of
Elmer's School Glue
or
School Glue
D.
one yellow highlighter
E.
1- 12"/30 cm ruler
I will have for purchase a planner/assignment book, the
vocabulary book, and grammar book.
(I will let you know the cost at a later date.) You do not need to buy an
assignment book. This style of planner will be used in 4 -
6 grades at Greenwood. They will be used to record
daily assignments. THIS IS A MUST! We spend time this year
developing good study habits, learning how to write down assignments,
learning how to budget time, and meeting deadlines. Assignments
are recorded daily, first thing each morning (and added to, or checked
off as completed as done, as the day progresses.)
Book bag, tote bag, or rolling tote bag, labeled with your name.
These make carrying materials to and from home easier.
A lunch container for lunch, labeled with your name (if you bring your own
lunch).
A personal -sized insulated sports drinking container that has a pop-up
sip top to use for drinking water. (This is the only type of water
container that will be permissible to use on the desk top.) We learn the
importance of drinking at least 8 - 8oz. glasses of water per day,
important to nutrition. That is very hard to do unless you hydrate
throughout the day.) If you think your container will condense, please
bring a coaster.
Examples:
Unless we are having a party, no pop or carbonated beverages are
allowed at school during the day or for lunches. You will
need to purchase milk available in the lunchroom or drink water.
Be careful of pre-packaged fruit juices. You need to drink only
those made from real fruit and not those with ingredients beginning with
corn syrup or fructose. Most fruit drinks are loaded with simple
carbohydrates and not nutritional for a well-balance diet.
A pair of gym shoes to be used in wellness (PE) class.
Avoid black-soled shoes that leave marks, and avoid clog-like shoes.
They can be dangerous to wear when running and active. We have wellness
class 4 days per week.)
To keep at home in a study area: a ruler, a math drawing compass,
a protractor and a calculator.
(In class, students will be
given a drawing compass, protractor and calculator to borrow for the
year.)
You will need to pay the following with a $45.00
check made out to Greenwood
4th Grade for the following:
a
current events magazine, Time for Kids
a
science magazine, National Geographic Explorer; together they
will cost approximately $11.
Assignment book/planner-- about $9
Grammar and vocabulary/spelling consumable workbooks.

Vocabulary book $15.00 |

Grammar book $9.00 |
You can write out a check for all
of these items and hand it in to me on the Parent
Meeting Night which is scheduled for Wednesday, August
19 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the 4th grade classroom.
You will need to
purchase text materials for math from the Missouri State
bookstore—Math Tool Kit pouch; 2007 ed. of Everyday
Fourth Grade Math Student Materials set of two math
journals (fuchsia colored), a template, and the 4th
Grade Everyday Math Study Links workbook (fuchsia
colored). When you go to the bookstore, go to the
Customer Service desk for your books. They will not be
on the shelves! They are there because other people
come in and buy our ordered books, leaving us short.
This method makes the books available to only our
Greenwood students.
Just so you know, the Missouri History books, science
books and most recently the Math hardback student
reference books have been donated in the past by other
classes so you don't have to purchase them. They
will be loaned out to your students as we need them for
various units. Any books ruined or lost will have to be
replaced at your expense.
Please avoid novelty school supply items. Keep materials
cheap, durable, and as basic as possible. Our storage areas are
small and that sort of item crowds them, plus they get "misplaced"
or missing, or distract the learner from lessons. Anything
resembling "toys" will be sent home or confiscated by the teachers
anyway, so just don’t bring them.
We have scratch paper (I call it
"Think Paper"), staple removers, etc. in the room. It is
not necessary to bring these items. Label all belongings with
permanent markers—Sharpie-brand markers work nicely for labeling.
I hope this list makes shopping easier. I’m trying to get it out
early enough so you can participate in the back to school sales that
seem to begin earlier every year. If you have any questions, please call me at
home at 581-5459, or at school, 836-5952. You can also get me by
e-mail at ShaeJohnson@missouristate.edu
Collected and Shared
-
1 package multi-colored
construction paper
-
2 packages yellow #2 pencils,
already sharpened
-
1 package Expo Markers
- **The classroom is in need of some new staplers.
If you feel so inclined as to donating some, we really
would appreciate it. I had six of them "bite the
dust" last year.
To help with some often used materials, please bring the following:
Last name A-G; bring a full-sized box of Kleenex or Puffs, or
any generic brand tissues. We will station these around the room to
share.
Last name H-M; bring a bottle of hand sanitizer. On the
desks, we keep one bottle per partnership to share.
Last name N-R; bring one box of quart sized freezer zip-lock bags
Last name S-Z; bring a roll of absorbent paper towels
Because our room seems to go from very warm to very cold at
times, you might want to bring a lightweight cardigan, jacket, or
sweatshirt, labeled with your name, to keep at school.
