Selected Papers

 Dr. Terrel Gallaway

I have conducted research on economic anthropology, MP3s and electronic commerce, and Light Pollution.  Here are some of my publications.

Life On the Edge      A Paper related to economic anthropology and environmental economics.  It examines the economic implications of Karly Polanyi's Ports of Trade, and ecotones, a related concept from ecology.

Unchained Melody  A paper written in the days of the old Napster and the pirating of MP3s.  The paper advocates use of price discrimination.  This practice is now widespread.

Free Ride  Another Paper on MP3s and, more generally, on information in the internet age.

Open Source   A paper on open source software and the inefficiencies of overly stringent copyright laws.

The Economics of Global Light Pollution  The first Economic analysis of global problem of light pollution.

On Light Pollution, Passive Pleasures, and the Instrumental Value of Beauty    A more philosophical paper, which examines the problems associated with light pollution, the value of the night, and why the economics profession has been behind the curve when it comes to addressing these important issues.

Ports of Trade, and the related concept from ecology of ecotones. Ports of Trade, and the related concept from ecology of ecotones.
