Welcome to the Missouri State University Horticulture Program website. We
hope you find what you are looking for, and if you don't, please let
us know.
We are part of the Missouri State University Agriculture Department, and
currently have 40 undergraduate horticulture majors who are working
toward horticultural science or horticulture business degree
options. Students interested in an advanced degree pursue Masters
Degrees in Plant Science through our College of Natural and Applied
Sciences.
Full time faculty in our program are Dr. Pamela
Trewatha who has been at Missouri State University for 19 years and Dr. Clydette Alsup
who joined the department six years ago. Several horticultural
professionals also teach courses for us on a part-time basis. Dr. Trewatha's research interests have included work with
turf grasses
and native grasses, the use of mycorrhizae to enhance plant growth
and survival, plant growth regulators, and integrated pest
management. Dr. Alsup has done research involving the use of poultry
litter as a fertilizer in commercial vegetable production, and
propagation of drought-tolerant sugar maples. They are currently
collaborating on research of container production methods for native
herbaceous ornamental species, and on novel landscape planting
methods for annual flowering plants. In addition, Dr. Trewatha
advises several graduate students. Dr. Alsup manages the Agriculture
Department's greenhouses and research plots at the Darr
Agricultural Center.
