MINOR IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Did you know that the United States is both the world's largest importing and exporting nation?  Did you know that our country's major corporations derive most of their profits from overseas sales?  For example, Coca Cola derives over 80% of its profits from international operations! Did you know that a posting abroad is often a prerequisite to promotion into executive ranks? In today's shrinking and interdependent world, it is critically important to be aware of the political, economic, and social events outside of the United States.  Students pursuing careers in both the public and private sectors will need to acquire an understanding of international affairs in order to cope with the fast-paced world around them and to enhance their job marketability.

A minor in International Relations will provide you with an opportunity to acquire a basic knowledge of international affairs.   It is especially useful for those majoring in business, foreign languages, agriculture, and the social sciences. Indeed, the minor could give you just the edge you need in today's highly competitive job market!

The International Relations minor consists of a curriculum totaling 18 credit hours. Those 18 credit hours include a core requirement of 9 credit hours and an additional 9 credit hours from a list of electives.  In addition to introductory courses in international and comparative politics, courses offered include American foreign policy, international law, and international organizations.  You may also take specialized classes in the politics of specific world regions--including Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, etc.  Research and related travel activities by involved faculty members provide an additional stimulus to earn a minor in international relations.

The International Relations faculty of the Missouri State Political Science Department will be happy to work with you and help you complete the minor.  The are a highly qualified group of scholars and all of them have had significant international experience.  Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact the Political Science Department at (417) 836-5630 or any member of its international relations faculty.
