III.          FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

 

Equivalent of Two Years of Course Work in a Modern Language (those seeking to receive credit for a language will be required to produce transcripts indicating previous training and/or pass a written and oral examination in the language).

IV. QUANTITATIVE METHODS REQUIREMENT:

 

Students without training in statistics must complete PLS 576 or ECO 508 (or equivalent as approved by advisor).  Those who wish to receive credit without taking one of these courses must pass a diagnostic test in the area

 

V. RESEARCH REQUIREMENT:

 

A student will be required to complete 6 or 3 hours in either Option 1 or Option2 two as outlined below:

 

Option 1:  PLS 699 Thesis (6 hours). This option is open only to those students who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.75.  Please note that a thesis requires considerable work and the completed thesis must meet with the approval of a committee who will review it.

VI. COMPREHENSIVE EXAM:

 

Upon completion of course work, students with a GPA of less than 3.75 must complete a comprehensive exam that will cover material presented in the core seminars.  It is the student’s responsibility to inform the director and the department head at the beginning of the semester in which he or she wishes to graduate that a comprehensive exam should be administered toward the end of the semester.  Do not wait until the end of the semester to remind faculty that you are graduating.
