Essay on the Documents

Write an essay on the following documents or document collections: Roger Williams, A Plea for Religious Liberty, Trial of Anne Hutchinson, The Salem Witchcraft Papers. Links to these sources are on the Documents page.

The essay should be approximately 5 to 7 pages, or 1250-1750 words, in length. It will be graded on formal style and language. Do not use abbreviations or contractions. Do not use slang. Avoid writing in the first person. Be sure to proofread the paper for misspelling.

Using these documents as your sources, discuss the following in colonial New England: separation of church and state, religious freedom, toleration, status of women. 

Give specific examples from the documents. Quotations are optional.
