PLS 103: Missouri Government and Politics

Course Policies:

1. Exams: There will be 2 multiple choice exams for a total of 100 points.  There will be 50 questions on each exam. A Photo ID will be required

 

2. Grading: Final grades will be based on total points and the following scale: 93 A, 90 A-, 87 B+, 83 B, 80 B-, 77 C+, 73 C, 70 C-, 67 D+, 60 D (Please note that there are no A+s or D-s). No curve will be utilized and no extra-credit will be given, and no "rounding-up" will occur.

 

3. Attendance/Promptness: As a blended TV course, regular classroom attendance is not required.  However, exam attendance is required. Pre-arranged absences may be tolerated with prior (24 hour) notice, University sanction, and documentation. Students arriving late for exams may not be allowed to take the exam

 

4. Academic Dishonesty: All members of the University share the responsibility and authority to challenge and make known acts of apparent academic dishonesty.  Any student detected participating in any form of academic dishonesty in this course will be subject to sanctions as described in the Student Academic Integrity Policies and Procedures.  It is the student's responsibility to read and fully understand Missouri States Student Academic Integrity Policies and Procedures.

 

5. Students with Disabilities:  The University is committed to making reasonable modifications in policies, practices or procedures when such modifications are necessary for services or accommodations to legally protected individuals with disabilities. 6. Emergency Response: Students who require assistance during an emergency evacuation must discuss their needs with their professors and Disability Services. 7. 7. Dropping: It is your responsibility to understand the University's procedure for dropping a class. If you stop attending this class but do not follow proper procedure for dropping the class, you will receive a failing grade and will also be financially obligated to pay for the class. For information about dropping a class or withdrawing from the university, contact the Office of the Registrar at 836-5520. It should be noted that withdrawing from the University does not insure a "drop while passing" grade.

 

Statement of Purpose

 

The course is designed to familiarize students with the institutions and constitutional framework of Missouri. The course emphasis is on the state-level values, rights, and responsibilities that shape the public decision-making of active and informed citizens and influence contemporary public affairs in a democratic society.
