THREAD: Evaluation of the WebBoard

Here's some. I'd try to think of more, but my antihistamines have started to kick in. I
hope you all have a happier and healthier weekend than it looks I'm going to have.
1. Has WebBoard (WB) expanded the horizons of the classroom, and how?
2. Is WB easy for a newcomer to figure out how to use?
3. Do you communicate differently with people when you use WB?
4. Have you met all of the WB regulars in real life? Would you be interested in doing it?
5. Do you think more classes should use WB or some similar program?

I think it was helpful, especially in mythology, when everything was about "so how
could this be, when the opposite is true too?". I like to able to ask questions without
having to go to a professor's office all of the time.
and I never thought it was hard to use, but I guess some of the new people would
disagree with me.
And I've met the majority of the users in other classes that I have with them, all
except for mags and stacy and holly.

Yes, it allows a student more time to bring their thoughts togther after class
instruction.

Yes, I'd say so

Perhaps a little less polite and more cynical, ya know the things one tries to suppress
IRL conversations.

Not all, only a few, but perhaps I could go to a scheduled meeting in the future

Yes, but only classes where interpretation and discussion are involved, or perhaps
where the material covered in class is so difficult that questions must be asked.

You also might want to consider the reaction anubis got, and some of the fallout
from his ignorance/rudeness.

Yes, because you can ask questions, and get fairly immediate resposes without
trying to play phone tag with you professor.
>2. Is WB easy for a newcomer
>to figure out how to use?
I though that it was easy to figure out.
>3. Do you communicate

I think that I do. I am more willing to say anything that comes to mind --it doesn't
show, does it? ;)
>4. Have you met all of the WB

I only know the people from UHC. I would be interested in meeting the others
though. The only problem I find with that is setting up a time and place, and then
following through with it....

I think that it is a great idea for classes. It can lead to discussions that you might not
have time for in class. It also allows you to get opinions from people who aren't in
your class.

Well, I think it helped us a lot outside of class. It brought the Purple Curtains
together, after all!
>2. Is WB easy for a newcomer
>to figure out how to use?
I think so... I had no problems navigating it at all.
>3. Do you communicate

ith people when
>you use WB?
I think so, mainly because I've never met most of them. It's a little more
touch-and-go that way.
>4. Have you met all of the WB
>regulars in real life? Would

I've only met Holly, Tyler, and Mags...Holly and I tried to track some of the others
down while we were in Springfield this past weekend. I'm interested in knowing
what these people look like.

I think in many ways, it's extremely beneficial. Social aspects aside, it gives students
an opportunity to discuss classroom subjects and to talk with Joe outside of class
and office hours.

Definitely, but I wish more classes would use the web board for out-of-class
discussion.

Ot was not a problem for me, but Internet newbies might have a hard time,
especially with there being two boards. Maybe a short introduction that is accessible
from the login page might help.

I tend to be a lot more direct and to the point.

Well, I know Wolfgang and you, but that's about it. Maybe we should have a picnic
where we could re-create some Greek myths. (I'll be Poseidon, then I'll kill all those
whale hunters)

Most definitely. This is as close to an ideal discourse as you can get. It is extremely
informative, at times amusing, and a very valuable tool for the exchange of ideas.

>>1. Has WebBoard (WB) expanded

I really enjoy it b/c it gives me a chance to communicate with class members who I
don't see much in person anymore. Except for Joe Booty, who stalks me.
>>2. Is WB easy for a newcomer
>>to figure out how to use?
I thought it was easy, but I agree with the concept of a tutorial page for newbies.
>>3. Do you communicate

Not really. I can be more long-winded here.
>>4. Have you met all of the WB

I know a lot of people here, but I'd like to meet some that I haven't met. Especially
Sarah.
>>5. Do you think more classes

Of course. The opportunity to communicate with classmates and talk to your
professor outside of class is fabulous.

I'm thinking of staging a party for the whole of us in the next couple weeks. So, any
suggestions that anyone has, let me know. I really want to finish putting the names
(or handles) with the faces before you all ride out of town.
