What is the Emphasis of the
Criminology (CRM) Program at Missouri State?

The name of a program often reveals its emphasis. In Missouri State's CRM program the emphasis is on gaining an understanding of the juvenile- and criminal justice system and related issues as well as the factors related to the causes of delinquency and adult criminality.

Criminal Justice programs offered at other universities through their political science department have a uniquely political science perspective. Those offered through a college of criminal justice (or something similar) are again unique in their perspective placing more emphasis on criminal justice (the workings of the justice system) than on criminology (the causes of delinquency and adult criminality).

Which one is best for you? It depends upon what you want for yourself and which perspective you think will put you in the most competitive position for eventual success in your chosen career. We feel our Criminology major and minor offer the students the best of both worlds - an understanding of delinquent and criminal behavior and the nature of the justice system society has created to deal with such offenders.

You can review the requirements for the Criminology Major and the Criminology minor.
