A Career as a Community Activist

Under this heading I include people who want to create and promote community-based criminal justice programs for the welfare of children-at-risk, ex-offenders and other people in need of assistance. Included are substance abuse intervention programs, counseling programs, programs that provide people with life skills (how to manage money, find a job, hold a job, resolve conflicts without resorting to violence, etc.) and sexual abuse and victim centers. They are often the agencies to whom probation and parole officers send their clients for help.

Many of the positions are managerial - they are the people who run these agencies. Others are positions from clerical (answering the phone, scheduling appointments, etc.) to counseling. Because the spread of kinds of positions is so wide, the best I can tell you is to visit this site to use any one of several career search engines to find a community activist position. And be sure to visit The Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information related to these positions. You can perform a keyword search to find your desired job.
