Berberis x gladwynenesis ‘William Penn:’ ‘William Penn’ Barberry

·         leaves evergreen, simple, alternate, lanceolate leaves with spined margins

·         leaves 1-2" long and about 1/3 as wide; leaves appear in clusters at nodes, but are not whorled, are alternate

·         upper leaf surfaces somewhat textured, but glabrous

·         pairs of long thorns (1-1.5" long) at nodes

·         height and width 3-5'

·         flowers not significant

·         prefers full sun, and tolerant of many soil types

·         slow to medium growth rate
