Horticulture majors are required to enroll in AGR 499 as part of their curriculum.  Students select a paid or volunteer work experience in a horticulture field-- landscape installation or maintenance, greenhouse management/production, nursery management/production, retail garden center, floral design/sales, turfgrass management (golf course management, lawn care, etc.), horticultural sales, horticulture research (lab or field work) or related field.  After selecting the work experience, students enroll in AGR 499 either during the summer, fall or spring semesters, and complete the required assignments along with the work experience.

Deadlines for Completing Work to Receive a Grade by the End of Summer Semester 2010:

To receive your earned letter grade by the end of the summer session in 2009, please use the guidelines listed below.

Date Activity

Monday

July 19,

2010

(Optional) Research papers due for preliminary review and return, if you wish me to check over your paper to see if it is sufficient quality for your best grade

Monday

July 26,

2010

Research paper, summary paper, special project write-up or PowerPoint, work hours, work logs and supervisor evaluation due.
Note:

For many students, it will be difficult to complete either the hours required or paper/presentation within the summer session.  An incomplete grade (I) will be assigned for the summer/semester internship course, which will be removed when the requirements have been met.

To remove the (I) incomplete, you must complete your work hours, logs and turn in the required papers and information listed in the information sheet.  As soon as I have all the materials, I can usually grade it and assign your grade within one week.

You have until the end of the Spring 2011 semester to complete your incomplete; however, I encourage you to complete it as soon as possible to avoid end of semester overload.   Failure to complete t he work required to remove the (I) grade by the end of the Spring 2011 semester results in the grade automatically becoming an F at the end of the Spring 2011 semester.
