Sambucus nigra ‘Black Lace’: ‘Black Lace’ European Elderberry
- * leaves opposite, pinnately compound, with deeply divided, dark-purple * leaflets 2-4 inches long and ˝ as wide
- * stems gray, often bending over at maturity; grows 3-8 feet tall
- * flowers a cyme of pinkish purple flowers in early summer, followed by * * blackish-red fruit (elderberries)
- * fruit is edible for wildlife and can be made into juice, jelly and wine
