Location near campus:  toward east side of Xeriscape Garden; Xeriscape Garden is at northwest corner of National and Linwood, about 3/4 mile south of campus on National Avenue.

Viburnum x burkwoodii: Burkwood Viburnum

·         leaves simple, opposite, usually deciduous, dark green, pubescent, but somewhat shiny on upper surface; lower surface gray-green to rust colored and very pubescent; leaves 2-4" long and 1-2" wide; leaf shape may vary with cultivar

·         stems light tan, very pubescent (tomentose)

·         size of 8-10' feet tall and about 2/3 as wide, upright, multi-stemmed shrub

·         flowers in terminal clusters, very fragrant, pink to white in early spring

·         fruit is red drupe which eventually turns black

·         prefers full sun to moderate shade, moist, well-drained soil; adaptable, but doesn’t tolerate wet soils

·         slow to medium growth rate
