Viburnum carlcephalum: Fragrant Snowball Viburnum

·         leaves opposite, simple, ovate, dark green, pubescent above and below, but somewhat shiny upper surface and toothed margins; leaves 2-5 inches long and about ½  as wide

·         stems light brown to gray with dense hairs on new growth; older stems nearly glabrous; naked leaves in buds

·         size 10' x 10', irregular-rounded shrub with stiff upright branches

·         flowers  fragrant in pink to white 5-6 inch diameter semi-globular clusters at branch tips and some from lateral buds in mid spring

·         fruit is a red changing to black drupe

·         prefers full sun to part shade; does best in moist, well-drained soil

·        medium growth rate
