Helleborus orientalis:  Lenten Rose

Location on campus:  in the center planting bed (under the beech and Japanese maple trees) in the planting area on the north side of Karls Hall.

·         Evergreen, palmately compound, dark green, alternate leaves; leaflets are linear-lanceolate with serrated margins

·         Plant height about 15-18” tall and wide

·         Flowers in late winter to early spring with magenta to pink to white flowers (actually showy sepals)

·         Prefers part to full shade in moist, well-drained, high organic matter soil
