Location on campus:  in small hedge east of Art Annex along drive/walkway; on northeast side of Greenwood Lab School, along drop-off drive off Harrison St.

Berberis x mentorensis: Mentor Barberry

·         leaves semi-evergreen, simple, ovate, alternate, dark green, leathery, rough textured on top with entire or slightly spined (1-5 very tiny spines) margins

·         leaves about 1/2" long and 1/2 as wide; leaves appear in clusters at nodes, but are not whorled, are alternate

·         stems angled, brown with 1 - 3 spines per node

·         grows to 5' tall and 5-7' wide

·         flowers not significant

·         prefers full sun to part-shade, adaptable to many soils types, but prefers drier soils

·         medium to fast growth rate
