·         a prostrate growing simple perennial with hairy, opposite oval leaves in the Caryophyllaceae (Pink) family

·         small white, 5-petaled flowers at stem tips in summer through fall

·         prefers cool, moist, fertile sites

·         is shade tolerant, but can grow in full sun
