·         gray-green to blue green, short leaves without fibers along margins

·         leaves have waxy/glaucous coating and are not real rigid (may twist or break over with age, like Y. flaccida)

·         non-trunk forming, but often offsets to form multiple-crowned clusters with age

·         forms well-branched flowering stems in late May to early June

·         tolerates alkaline soils
