Chasmanthium latifolium:  River Oat Grass

Location near campus:  between Foster Recreation Center and Blair-Shannon.

·         native warm-season bunchgrass, with about ½ to ¾ inch wide and 4-9 inch long blue-green leaves

·         grows 2-5’ tall

·         at tips of flowering stems, produces dangling panicles with green flattened spikelets (look like flattened feathers?) that turn bronze-brown as they ripen

·         foliage turns tan in winter

·         prefers moist soils and tolerates moderate shade

·         native to Missouri
