Spiraea nipponica ‘Snowmound:’ ‘Snowmound’ Spirea

·         leaves alternate, deciduous, simple, oblong obovate, 1-1/5" long, toothed at tip of leaf; dark green to blue green above; pale, almost whitish underneath

·         stems dark brown to purplish, thin, rigid emerging at upright angles from main stem

·         flowers in small white clusters at the nodes in late spring; flower clusters all sit on top side of lateral branches giving a “snow-covered” effect to branches

·         grows 3-5' tall and 2/3 to as wide in an upright oval shrub with new sprouts from base annually

·         prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soils; benefits from removal of older limbs each year

·         medium growth rate
