Location near campus:  toward northwest corner of Xeriscape Garden; Xeriscape Garden is at northwest corner of National and Linwood, about 3/4 mile south of campus on National Avenue.

Cotoneaster divaricatus:  Spreading Cotoneaster

·         leaves alternate, oval, thick, deciduous to semi-evergreen, 0.5-1” long and ½ as wide; dark green & glossy above, lighter green, slightly pubescent underneath

·         stems are purple to reddish brown; pubescent when young, slender, becoming glossy smooth with age (and turning more gray)

·         flowers are ½” diameter, white to pink in leaf axils—not very dense or showy

·         fruit is an egg-shaped pome, bright red, about ½” long and ¼” wide—quite showy

·         grows 4-5’ tall and wide

·         prefers general cotoneaster culture

·         medium to fast growth rate
