        ·         leaves simple, alternate, deciduous, palmately 3-5 lobed; dark green above and white pubescent underneath

        ·         bark gray to whitish on young trunks, black and fissured on older trunks

        ·         grows 40-70' tall and produces numerous root suckers

        ·         short-lived, but tolerant of many soil types and growing conditions
