Robert O. Lunn, MHA, Ph.D.

Dr. Lunn joined the Missouri State College of Business Administration
in 1999 as Professor of Management & Director of the new Master of Health
Administration (MHA) degree program. After earning a BA in Psychology from
Williams College in 1969, Dr. Lunn followed brief military service by
earning an MHA from Duke University in 1973. He then served for several
years as Director of Blue Ridge Comprehensive Community Health Center in
Charlottesville, VA, before attending UNC-Chapel Hill, where he received a
Ph.D. in Business Administration in 1981. While completing his dissertation,
Dr. Lunn was an Assistant Professor in Duke’s Department of Health
Administration, where he also served as Director of Graduate Studies and
Director of Admissions. After several years of teaching, Dr. Lunn returned
to health executive practice. He planned, built and served as start-up
Executive Director of the Center for Health and Human Performance at UMASS
Medical Center, followed by 6 years as Chief Administrative Officer of the
400 physician University of Florida Clinic in Gainesville. Dr. Lunn then
served as start-up Chief Operating Officer of the 125 physician Emory
Pediatric Care Foundation at Emory University in Atlanta. Before moving to
Missouri State, he was Professor and Administrative Vice Chair for an 80 physician
internal medicine group at East Carolina University Medical School in
Greenville, NC.
Dr. Lunn has held faculty positions at Duke University, UNC-Greensboro,
University of Massachusetts, University of Florida, Emory University, and
East Carolina University. Among his articles are publications in
Journal of Applied Psychology,
Journal of Experimental Research in
Personality, Aging and Work and Healthcare Management Review. Dr. Lunn’s
research interests include physician executives, medical group management
and physician group governance. He is a retired Navy Reserve Medical Service
Corps Officer, having been recalled in 1991 to take part in Operation Desert
Storm. Several years ago, Dr. Lunn was asked by the Association of
Professors of Medicine to develop and teach a national level orientation
curriculum for newly appointed Chairs of Academic Medicine. Dr. Lunn was
presented an Missouri State COBA Teaching Award in August, 2001. In August 2003, he
was presented the Missouri State COBA Outstanding Research Paper Award. Also in 2003,
he was presented the Missouri State Graduate College’s inaugural Outstanding Graduate
Mentor Award.
