How to Install
Eclipse, Tomcat, and Visual Editor
To install Eclipse on your home computer:
- Go to http://www.eclipse.org/
- Click
the link, Download Eclipse
- Click
the link, Eclipse Classic 3.4
- Click
the Download from: link, click
Open in the dialog box
- In the
WinZip dialog, click the Extract button and select a drive, such as c:/ or your jump drive.
- Open
the eclipse folder
- Double-click
the eclipse.exe file or right-click and click Create Shortcut.
To install Tomcat (web server) on your home computer:
- Go to http://tomcat.apache.org/download-55.cgi.
- Click
the link, Windows Executable,
under the 5.5.17 category.
- In the
File Download dialog, click Run (or Save to save and run later).
- In the
setup wizard, follow the prompts. When selecting the HTTP/1.1 Connector
Port, you may want to enter 8888 to avoid conflicts with 8080.
- When
installation is complete (after a few seconds), click Finish in the wizard.
To install the Visual Editor:
- Launch
Eclipse by double-clicking the Eclipse shortcut on the Desktop.
- When
running Eclipse for the first time, use the default folder for a workspace
(or create a different folder for a workspace) and click OK.
- In the
Eclipse IDE, click Help, point to Software Updates, and click Find and
Install.
- Click
the button for Search for new
features to install and click Next.
- Click
the checkbox for Visual Editor update site and click Finish.
- Using
the default (first) selection, click OK in the Update Site Mirrors dialog.
- In the
Updates dialog, click the +
icons to expand the lists of checkboxes. Click the checkbox for Visual Editor 1.2.0 (not Visual
Editor SDK 1.2.0). Click Next.
- Click
the button for “I accept…” and click Next.
- Click
Finish. (Downloading this installation file may take 5+ minutes.)
- Click
Install All in the Verification dialog.
- Click
Yes to restart Eclipse and click OK in the Workspace Launcher dialog.
