Digestive System Unit Objectives/Study Guide

The student will be able to:

* compare and contrast cells, tissues, organs, and systems
* trace the path of food through the digestive system (orally and written)
* describe the functions of teeth, the tongue, and saliva in the digestive process
* describe how food changes after it is swallowed and how and where it enters the bloodstream
* discuss disorders and care of the digestive system
* know where the incisors, canines, and molars are located and be able to describe their specific functions
* describe the food changes that occur in the organs of the digestive system
* explain what food provides for the body (3 main things food does for us)
* explain the following terms:  cells, tissues, organs, systems, digestive system, saliva, appendix, pancreas, heart, lungs, brain, and anus, or rectum
* along with the above terms, label these organs of the body:  liver, gall bladder, appendix, pancreas, heart, lungs, brain, and anus, or rectum.

Along with the diagrams given out in class, and the various Internet sites available for review, the children are also to re-read and study using the Silver Burdett Science book, Chapter 13, "Using Food", pp. 269-289
