Greek 101 Final Guide
Review chh. 6-9, with emphasis on verbs, participles, and 3rd declension nouns.
The Final consists of (a) short phrases, Greek to English and English to Greek;
(b) sentences (all Gr.-to-Eng.) based on assigned exercises (see IV below);
(c) a passage based on assigned readings (see V below)
I. For any of the verbs listed in assigned vocabulary be able to conjugate
and form participles
Practice (from vocab. 6-9), esp. 1st pl. (we), 3rd sing (s/he) and pl. (they):
βοηθοῦσι ἀποκτείνειν
ἀφικνεῖται βούλεσθαι
δέχονται γιγνόμεθα
ἔρχεσθε πείθου
φοβούμεθα σῴζετε
μαχόμεθα ἡγοῦνται
παρέχομεν τιμᾶν
τύπτουσι πορεύεσθαι
ἑυρίσκετε κελεύουσι
ἀποκρίνεται βάλλομεν
παύει παύονται
διαλέγομαι ἕπονται
θεᾶσθαι εὔχομαι
we answer they are afraid
you (all) lead he orders

II. Review participles: middle verbs, beginning 8a, pp. 114-16;
active, 9a, pp. 135-37
Then, for any 12 in I. (above) give the corresponding participles,
singular or plural, masc. & fem.:
ex. βοηθοῦσι (plural)›› βοηθοῦντες/βοηθοῦσαι.
III. Review 3rd decl. nouns, beginning with lesson 7a, pp. 97-100, & esp.
pp.125-8, 145-6.
(a) Practice with article-noun phrases, esp. gen. (of) dat. (to/for/by, etc.):
τῷ παιδί τοῦ πατρὸς
τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν γυναικῶν
τοὺς βασιλέας ταῖς πόλεσι
οἱ ἄνδρες τὸ ἄστυ
ταῖς παισί τῆς θυγατρὸς
τῷ πυρὶ (no plural) πάντι ἀνδρί
τοῦ ἱερέως τοὺς γέροντας
(b) Change singular to plural and vice versa ('one' <--> 'many').
IV. Review assigned exercises, esp. 7ε (p. 108); 8β-ε (p. 116, 127); 9b-d (p. 137).
V. Reading passages: review the tale of Odysseus, ch. 7, plus pp. 130, 149-50;
Then test yourself using translation practice.
VI. Optional Extra Credit: Memorize a passage of 3-4 lines from
a) Luke 6 (p.151, 163) or b) Luke 2; or c) Simonides 76 (p. 151)
