Native simple perennial of prairies and rangelands with stout rootstock
·
With age, will produce clumps of upright, hairy, mostly unbranched stems
that grow 8-16 inches tall

Leaves are lanceolate to linear, held upright and overlapping on stems,
covered with hairs, including some glandular hairs
·
Flowers are in head inflorescences about 1 inch across, with 12-24 white
ray flowers and 12-24 yellow disk flowers
·
Bracts below the inflorescence are elongated, hairy with reddish tips
·
Not a weed problem
