Phellodendron amurense: Amur Corktree
· leaves opposite, deciduous, pinnately compound with 5-11 lanceolate leaflets 2.5 – 4.5 inches long and about ˝ as wide, dark green
· buds small, with red or rust hairs, enclosed by base of petiole
· stems stout, yellow-orange becoming brown, with prominent lenticels
· bark is gray-brown, furrowed, becoming cork-like with age
· grows 30-50 feet tall and equally wide or wider
· flowers are dioecious,not showy (greenish-yellow), followed by black drupe fruit in panicle clusters on female trees
· prefers full sun and moist, fertile soils, but will grow about any soil; however, doesn’t like drought too much and may slow its rate of growth dramatically
· has become invasive in some areas
