·         summer annual, warm-season grass with very thin leaf blades and thin stems, similar to triple-awn grass

·         spike-like seedheads are held close to the stem, and are partially to almost entirely enclosed in sheath of stem leaves

·         found in similar habitat as triple-awn grass—dry, low-fertility sites—and overgrazed sites
