Arrowgrass

·         native perennial grass or rush-like plant found in wet prairies of western Midwest

·         leaves narrow, grass-like, but stiff and thick/fleshy in texture

·         inflorescence a slender spike of greenish-red flowers in June-July

·         very toxic to livestock—not usually selected for grazing, but sometimes is found in hay cut from native prairie grasses grown in wetter soils and can cause poisoning if consumed in new hay
