Beefsteak Plant, Perilla:  (not in Weeds of the Northeast, nor Weeds of the Great Plains)

·                     summer annual with opposite, oval-pointed leaves with toothed margins; leaves have a strong odor if bruised

·                     leaves often dark-green to purplish in color

·                     flowers small, in terminal spikes

·                     an escaped herb of Asian origin; prefers moist, semi-shaded to full-sun, fertile soils

·                     found in gardens, woodlands, roadsides, non-crop areas

·                    toxic to livestock
