Buckbrush:

·         native small, scrambling shrub in the honeysuckle family

·         can form moderately dense undergrowth in open woods

·         found in fencerows, open woods, pastures, glades

·         has thin twigs with opposite, oval leaves, with bright red berry clusters in leaf axils in fall that are a wildlife food

·         not a problem weed, but more of a nuisance as an understory or fencerow plant

·         might be confused with invasive species amur honeysuckle and tatarian honeysuckle, but these have larger leaves and flowers and grow much taller; fruit is larger on these as well, and not as persistant as buckbrush fruit
