- * Similar to downy brome except seedlings have shorter ligule and are less hairy
- * Mature plant has less hair on leaf blade and almost hairless leaf sheath
- * Inflorescences a little less droopy than downy brome, and spikelets are fatter with shorter awns than downy brome
