· Native perennial vine that sprouts each year from a large, tuberous root
· Stems are green to brown and climb by twining around objects
· Leaves are alternate, thin, rounded with 3-5 lobes
· Flowers are tiny, white, in axillary racemes
· Fruit is a small, grape-like blue-black berry; seeds are crescent shaped and poisonous
