summer annual vine with heart-shaped, but finely divided leaves—almost like only the main veins are present in leaves, not much tissue in between
flowers are 1-3 inches long, bright red, trumpet shaped—favored by hummingbirds
found in cultivated fields and waste areas
similar species: cardinal climber, has more tissue on deeply lobed leaves (fewer divisions) but similar flowers, growth habit and occurrences
