Goldenrod:

·         a very large group of native, mostly perennial, yellow-flowered weeds in the Aster family

·         most have lanceolate leaves, are 2-6' tall, and panicles of bright yellow flowers in late summer to fall

·         some have creeping root systems; these sometimes are problem goldenrods

o   Missouri Goldenrod (Solidago missouriensis) and Tall or Canada Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis)—are common Missouri goldenrod species that have creeping root systems and spreading panicle arrangements of flower heads

·         not a cause of late summer allergies—pollen is large and not readily windblown

·         commonly grown as an ornamental flower in Europe

·         livestock will eat these readily, so usually not a pasture/range weed problem
