Spotted Deadnettle

Location near campus:  in several of the planting beds, usually under trees, in the Xeriscape Garden, located 3/4 mile south of campus at the corner of National Avenue and Linwood.

*    herbaceous perennial groundcover that spreads by stolons that root at the nodes

*    has opposite, green leaves with silvery markings on top

*    flowers are deep, bright blue in late fall through spring

*    prefers part shade to moderate shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soils

*    can invade into lawns, so often good to plant it in confined areas where spread outside of planting bed will not be a problem
