· Cool-season perennial, clump-forming grass growing 2-3 feet tall
· Leaves are light green, and covered with velvety-soft hairs
· Inflorescence is a reddish-silver panicle, compressed at first, then opening as it matures
· Found on roadsides, perennial crops, orchards
